How Shelta Protects Your Child
Shelta works differently from other parental control apps. Instead of running on top of iOS where it can be bypassed, Shelta taps into Apple's own safety framework so protection is built right into the operating system.
Built on Apple's Safety Framework
Shelta uses Apple's FamilyControls — the same technology Apple designed for families. This means protection is enforced by iOS itself, not by a separate app that can be removed.
Restrictions are applied at the operating system level by Apple, not through a third-party app layer.
This verifies the real parent-child relationship. Only a parent in the Family Sharing group can approve or change protections.
Bedtime schedules and app blocks work even when the device has no internet connection. Protection doesn't depend on a server.
What Shelta Can Do
Block specific apps or entire categories like social media, games, or dating apps. Your child sees a shield screen instead.
The device locks down automatically at bedtime, even when offline. No more midnight scrolling.
Set how much total screen time your child gets each day. When time's up, the device locks.
Filter explicit music, podcasts, and other media content automatically.
Set age-appropriate ratings for apps, movies, and TV shows. Content that exceeds the rating is hidden.
Block your child from installing or deleting apps without your permission.
Prevent surprise charges from games and apps that push in-app purchases.
Optionally see where your child's device is. This is fully opt-in and only enabled if you choose.
What We DON'T Do
Shelta is a safety net, not a spy tool. We believe kids deserve privacy, and parents deserve peace of mind. You get both.
Read your child's messages
Their conversations are private.
Monitor their calls
We never listen to or log phone calls.
Track their browsing history
We block categories, not spy on every page.
Access their photos
Your child's camera roll stays private.
Record their screen
No screenshots, no screen recording.
How Changes Sync
When you change a setting on the dashboard, it's pushed to your child's device within minutes via a silent notification. No action is needed from your child — changes happen in the background automatically.
Can My Child Bypass It?
No. Because Shelta uses Apple's built-in FamilyControls framework, your child cannot uninstall it, disable it, or bypass it with a VPN. The restrictions are enforced by iOS itself.
VPNs don't help. Restrictions happen at the operating system level, not through network filtering.
Can't be uninstalled. Protection is tied to FamilyControls, not a removable app.
Survives restarts. Protection stays active through device restarts and iOS updates.
The only way to remove protection:
Protection can only be revoked with parental approval through Apple's Family Sharing. Your child cannot do this on their own — it requires the parent's device and Apple ID.
Ready to Protect Your Child?
Now that you know how Shelta works, set it up on your child's device. It only takes about 5 minutes.
